Children to Child Care - Parents to Work
Start leaving before you have to go. Prepare. Do not leave it all to the last minute when you are rushed.
Set up a "going out" place at your home close to your front door. Use this space to place all items you will
need in the morning as you depart, including toys, clothes, work items, or an umbrella. Make sure your
child's belongings are ready to go the night before.
Say good-bye clearly when you know you have your child's attention. Never leave without saying goodbye.
Leave immediately. Don't hesitate as if something is wrong with leaving your child with his provider.
Give your child a reference point for your return that is familiar. Say "I will pick you up after snack time" or
refer to another time your child understands as part of a routine event.
Always return at the time you have given your child for pick-up. If you are delayed, call and make certain
your child is told when you will arrive.
At drop-off or pick-up time, hug your child and tell her how much you care.
